I am a fully certified music teacher who has found herself working part time at an elementary school in Springville for not nearly the wages she should but who Absolutely Loves her job! I love being one of the "favorite teachers" of the entire school, having students going out of their way to come into my room to simply say hi and give me a hug, seeing the thrill on their faces and hearing them excitedly jabber when I give them something challenging and fun and then having them totally excel in it! I get to laugh at their funny personalities that make each of them so special and wonderful!
I love that I get the chance to point out great things about them not only to them but their classmates and brothers and sisters. I know and can imagine (sadly) how much crud there is in this world
Story: in my classroom I have a rule to keep your hands clean. I say that if I see you put fingers in your nose or mouth you don't get to play instruments that day! (fair enough, of course) Yesterday one of my cute 1st grd then followed my expl. with "and we can't do this..." & proceeded to pretend to put his finger up his nose & then into his mouth Hahaha! my thoughts: 'well yes Hon, that would definitely be included in no fingers in your mouth and/or nose!' I love teaching these little guys!?!
I get to teach 3 of my nieces and nephews (Brayden 5th grade, Adelyn 3rd grade, and Sophie 1st grade). They come to my classroom after school to see me, tell me that my "tummy's getting huge-er" -Sophie, and tell me about their day. I sure love those kids!
I love the principal, Sarah Matis, who knows nearly all the students names in the entire school! She is the most finominal principal I have ever worked with. She supports and cares for teachers as well as students. She lays down the law and loves so freely. The teachers I work with are just as wonderful! I feel their support and love! They care for their students, laugh easily, and we all relate because we're open with each other. No one is above another and everyone's willing to help. I feel so lucky to work where I do! I am so grateful that I am getting this chance to teach what I love to those kiddos I love so much.
I'm grateful to Allison Stewart, my cooperating teacher at Piggott ES down in Las Vegas, who showed me how it's all done, who pushed me to work hard and give it my best. She's the one who helped me realize my love for the little ones because before being with her I wanted to stay secondary. Those Piggott Panthers stole my heart and these Westside Wildcats have done the same thing!
